THE 2025 edition of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) route will skip the Genting Highlands climb for the second consecutive time.

LTdL chief operating officer Emir Abd Jalal said the decision was made due to approval issues from the authorities and unavoidable technical factors.

“We certainly wanted to retain Genting Highlands as part of the route, but due to approval issues and other factors, we had to look for an alternative,” he told a press conference following the Launch and Route Introduction of LTdL 2025 at the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) Tower, today.

“Fraser’s Hill was chosen as it still presents a significant challenge for the riders.”

The route will provide a unique challenge with a 27-kilometre climb and a maximum elevation of 1,221 metres.

Emir added that despite the absence of Genting Highlands, the race will remain highly competitive with a mix of challenges, including hilly routes and technical descents.

Meanwhile, organisers have also confirmed the participation of three World Teams, seven Pro Teams, eleven Continental teams, and a national team. This is expected to make the race more competitive and open to various tactical strategies.

With different challenges and the absence of the Genting Highlands climb, this year’s race is expected to be more open and not solely favour pure climbers.

LTdl will cover 1257.8km, starting with the stage 1 in Langkawi and ending at the Petronas Twin Towers. This edition will also introduce Padang Besar in Perlis, Medini and Tangkak in Johor as new venues.
