KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team’s (TSG) Jambaljamts Sainbayar is looking to defend his white jersey and also help his team secure the coveted yellow jersey at Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) which begins on Sept 23.

The Mongolian national champion, who won the Asian rider’s classification on his LTdL debut last year, is confident the Kuala Terengganu-based squad is capable of fighting for both jerseys this year.

“We are hoping to challenge for both jerseys. We have two general classification (contenders) in the team, myself and Jeroen Meijers (Netherlands),” said Jambaljamts when met during the latest LTdL press conference in Bukit Jalil today.

“Of course I would love to win the yellow jersey. It would be a great honour for me as LTdL is a prestigious professional cycling race.

“I was able to wear the yellow jersey during a number of stages during a recent tour in China (Tour of Huangshan) but lost it in the final stage.

“Hopefully I can win it at LTdL but we will have to see how it goes.

“We have not appointed a (team) leader yet, it will depend on who reaches the summit at Genting Higlands (queen stage) first.”

TSG will also be fielding Youcef Reguigui (Algeria), Nur Aiman Zariff, Harrif Saleh and Nur Amirul Fakhruddin Mazuki for this year’s LTdL.

Aiman is a two-time winner of the red jersey (mountains classification) while sprint specialist Harrif has won three LTdL stages throughout his career, more than any other Malaysian cyclist.

The Terengganu State Government and Tourism Terengganu were unveiled as one of the main sponsors for the UCI ProSeries tour this year with a contribution of RM800,000 (combined cash and in-kind).
